Student Achievements – 3 February 2023
A number of Scotch students competed in the WA State Swimming Championships over the break.
In the 17 years age group, Zachary Mills, Year 12 Stuart placed third in the 50m freestyle and first in the 100m fly, and Daniel Boshart, Year 12 Alexander placed second in the 200m fly, second in the 100m freestyle and second in the 50m fly. Jack Ashby, Year 9 St Andrews placed third in both the 100m and 200m backstroke in the 14 years age group.
Tex Cross, Year 11 Anderson placed first in the 15 years 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle, and in the 200m and 400m individual medley. He also placed first in the 14–15 years 4 x 50 medley relay as a part of the Highlanders Swimming Club team and placed second in the 16 years 5km Open Water National Championships in Busselton.
Sean Christie, Year 12 St Andrews has been selected into the National Under 19 Floor Ball Team. He will travel to Prague for a training camp during the holidays before competing in the tournament in Denmark.
Zephyr McPherson, Year 12 Alexander competed in the WA State National Futsal Championships under 19 years category. The team finishing second in the group stage with four wins and one loss. They then reached the finals however were unfortunately knocked out on penalties in the semi-finals. Zephyr was awarded with two ‘man of the match’ awards, placed second in the top goal scorer’s tally, with WA finishing third overall.
Sebastian Houston, Year 12 Cameron was selected to represent WA in the Under 19 Men’s Water Polo Team at the National Championships at the end of last year. He will now play in the Australian Water Polo League (AWL) for the Adelaide Jets, competing in short tournaments across Australia over the next few months.
Khyan Mann, Year 10 Shearer will compete at the 2023 Australian Sprint Kayaking National Championships in March this year. He will compete in individual 200m, 500m and 1000m events as well as in several team races.
