Academic Excellence
Year 9 and 10
Students in Year 9 and 10 are awarded a certificate of Excellence in each semester when they receive an A grade in five of the courses on their report and no less than a C grade in their other subjects. In the case of Health and Physical Education, which is counted as one course but reported as two individual grades, both grades must be ‘A’ for this course to count towards the total.
Year 11 and 12 WACE
Students in Year 11 and 12 WACE are awarded a Certificate of Excellence in each semester when they receive four A grades on their report, with the 5th grade being at least a B above 70. Students who also have a high Tertiary Entrance Aggregate across 5 subjects may also be considered for this award.
Year 11 and 12 IBDP
Students in Year 11 and 12 IBDP are awarded a Certificate of Excellence in each semester when they receive a total of 34 or higher across their 6 subjects.
Colours
Academic Colours are awarded in Year 11 or 12 to a boy who has achieved five Certificates of Excellence in the Senior School, two of which must be achieved whilst in Year 11 or 12. This is recognised by a Colours Tie. For students who enter Scotch after Year 9, Colours can be granted with a similar level of attainment and on the recommendation of the Deputy Head of Senior School – Teaching & Learning.
Honours
Academic Honours are awarded in Year 12 to a student who has achieved seven Certificates of Excellence in five years; one in every semester in Years 9 – 11 plus one in Year 12. A student is able to miss one Certificate of Excellence before Year 11 and still be awarded Honours. This is recognised by an Honours tie.
