Uniform
Dress and Appearance
School uniform is to be worn correctly by all students at School and when travelling to or from School.
When ties are worn the collar button must be done up and shirts need to be tucked in properly. It is highly recommended that all clothing is marked with the student’s name.
Hair should be neat, tidy, clean and brushed. It must be an even cut over the head with a minimum length Number 3. Hair should not fall over the collar, eyes or ears and is to be the natural colour (no added colours or dyes). If product, hair ties or head bands are required to keep hair from falling across the ears or face, the hair is too long. Boys must be clean shaven.
No jewellery, other than a wrist watch or medic alert bracelet, is to be worn.
No tattoos of any kind are permitted.
Students who have Physical Education in Period 1 may wear their PE uniform to school, as long as they don’t have Chapel that morning and students who have Physical Education in Period 6 may wear their PE uniform home at the end of the school day. Otherwise all students should change out of their PE gear after class and wear their school uniform to each lesson.
On a Friday students in Year 10 who need to be changed for a Service activity in the afternoon may get changed at recess and this also applies to Year 9 students who have an away sports fixture.
Occasionally the College will have a Free Dress Day when boys will be permitted to wear casual clothing. This is usually run as a fund-raising exercise. On these days, clothing must be clean and neat without offensive wording, closed in shoes must be worn. All other expectations remain unchanged.
School Winter Uniform
Winter Uniform is worn in Autumn and Winter Terms.
Winter uniform for boys in Years 9 to 11 consists of grey wool blend trousers with a black leather belt, Scotch maroon blazer, long-sleeved white shirt, House tie, grey socks and plain black leather lace up shoes. Boys in Year 12 wear the same uniform with the Year 12 Scotch College striped blazer instead of the maroon blazer. The grey College woollen pullover may be worn.
When winter uniform is worn, blazers may be removed when boys arrive at school, but must be worn to Chapel, Marching and Assembly. Blazers must be worn whenever a boy leaves the College grounds or is traveling to or from school. Boys do not need to wear a blazer when riding a bicycle. A College tracksuit top is regarded as a sport item and is not to be worn as part of the winter uniform.
Students who are representing the College in a First team (sporting or cultural) during Spring or Summer Term may wear their winter uniform on a Friday.
Year 12 students may wear their Leavers jumpers as part of their winter uniform, but must be in blazers for Assembly and marching (without the Leavers jumper underneath).
On Speech Night all new Year 12 boys are to wear their maroon blazer as they will be receiving prizes for the Year 11 academic year.
School Summer Uniform
Summer Uniform is worn in Spring & Summer Terms.
Summer uniform consists of khaki shorts, Senior School khaki shirt, House tie, short School khaki socks and plain black lace-up shoes. The grey College woollen pullover may be worn.
Senior School boys need not wear a tie in Summer Term, except at Marching and Assembly on Fridays. In Spring Term, Senior School boys need not wear a tie to school if the weather forecast on a particular day predicts a temperature of 35 degrees Celsius or more. On some other days, boys may be allowed to remove their ties after the commencement of school. Under such circumstances, they need not wear their ties home. If the tie is not worn, the top button of the shirt must be undone. However, if the grey College pullover is worn, the tie must also be worn.
So that each boy may be identified by his House when not wearing a tie, boys wear appropriately coloured braid on the pocket of their summer uniform shirt. The braid is sewn across the top edge of the pocket. The full width of the braid should be visible. The shirt will also have an embroidered Scotch badge in the centre of the pocket. Year 12 braid should be sewn on beneath the House braid. College braids are available from the Uniform Shop. Boys may only wear the navy College peaked cap with their summer uniform. For specified occasions throughout the year, such as when the students are spectators at the PSA Athletics Carnival, the College tie should be worn instead of the House tie. College ties are available at the Uniform Shop.
