Marching & Assembly
The Scotch College Pipe Band was formed in 1947 to help strengthen our links with Scottish traditions. Twelve students were selected to form the band and they practised on Saturday mornings. They received their full dress uniform in late 1949 and the band has become synonymous with the college ever since then.
Since the 1950’s the students have been marching to Assemblies in their Houses, accompanied by the Pipe Band. In the 1973 specific House tunes were written for the band to play as each House marched past. In 1976 our House ties were introduced to help give each boy a sense of belonging, and this also makes the Houses easily identifiable. These traditions are an important part of the Senior School and our students continue to embrace and build on them.
Parents, families and friends are invited to watch our marching which occurs most Friday mornings from 8.30am. Houses form up and take off from the Chapel Lawn and march to assembly concluding with the fall out at the entry to the Dickinson Centre. This is usually followed by an Assembly running from 8.55am until 9.45am. Assemblies are important occasions for our community to come together and recognise and celebrate the efforts, abilities and achievements of our students. From academic achievement, musical and drama performances, to success in the Co Curricular and sporting arena, these assemblies provide a showcase of our students.
