Rottnest Transition and Pastoral Care Camp
The Rottnest Camp was introduced in 1996 to facilitate the transition of Year 8 students into life in the Senior School. One of the critical focus areas of the camp was and still is today, the development of relationships and a sense of belonging to the individual House and whole school community.
The camp has evolved over time and with Year 8 becoming part of the Middle School programme it is now an experience enjoyed by Year 9 students. The Assistant to the Deputy Head of Senior School organises and oversees the camp, with activities led by teaching staff and House Heads. The camp is an integral part of our Pastoral Care and Wellbeing programme in the Senior School and having a full cohort of students away together provides a great opportunity for the boys to develop bonds with other students and also gain a better understanding of each other and expectations in the Senior School.
It is a four-day, residential camp, based at Kingstown Barracks. The camp consists of six 2.5 hour sessions where students participate in activities including; Ecology, History, Community and Service (an opportunity for boys to give back to the island) Aquatics, Snorkeling and Creative Art. The evening programme includes House activities and a Wellbeing session where students focus on the three pillars of Wellbeing at Scotch namely Resilience, Relationships and Respect.
