Simon has completed his Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award by covering the following activities in each section. For Physical Recreation, Simon worked on a CrossFit programme in the gym to assist in his rehabilitation through an injury. This allowed him to return to match play earlier than scheduled. Simon started playing the acoustic guitar for his Silver Award. Whilst Simon prefers to learn by ear, he has sufficient skills to read standard notation and apply it to the guitar. He has volunteered in the Scotch Soup Kitchen for over a year, assisting the Year 9 boys who are starting their own Duke of Edinburgh Award. Through COVID, Simon continued to make soup at home and bring it in to Rev Gary to keep up the supply of soup for the homeless. He assisted with swimming coaching of the Junior School boys. His demonstration of the skill and feedback to the students has helped them to improve their swimming technique and fitness. In the December holidays, Simon and a group of Year 12 Gold Award participants planned and completed the Cape to Cape as their Adventurous Journey. For his Residential Project, he attended an international Round Square conference in India with participants from over 100 schools.
