Boys’ Achievements – 5 March 2021
Pearson Chambel, Year 12 St Andrews successfully completed the BDO Kalamunda 100 over the weekend, a cycling event encompassing 100km of riding and in excess of 1,900 metres of climbing.
Thomas (Tom) Chalmers, Year 9 St Andrews, Hamish Elliott, Year 10 Stuart and Charles McCarthy, Year 10 Brisbane have attained selection in the West Australian Under 15 Boys’ Hockey Team. Digby Gardiner, Year 9 St Andrews and Angus King, Year 9 Shearer are members of the larger state training squad.
George Purser, Year 12 Brisbane and Ben Nixon, Year 12 Ross are now End-to-Enders, having completed the Bibbulmun Track.
Ben Scott and Heath Muller, both Year 12 Ross competed in the Western Australian State Debating Team, with Ben as Captain. They competed (online) in the National Schools Debating Championship in December and placed fourth. Ben was then one of five selected in the Australian Schools Debating Team and would have competed at the World Championships, if not for COVID-19. Instead the team debated in an online competition, winning against New Zealand.
While there were a number of Scotch College boys involved in the Rottnest Channel Swim, of note were the performances of Thomas Simich, Year 11 Shearer who completed a solo crossing in a time of five hours and 55 minutes and Bailey Alexander, Year 10 Alexander who completed a solo crossing in a time of seven hours and one minute.
