Week 2, Summer Term 2021
Dear Boarding Families,
Welcome to our first newsletter of the year. It has been a strange start but, once again, I have been amazed by the flexibility and resilience of our community. Parents have been incredibly supportive and staff have displayed the highest level of professionalism and care. The boys themselves have been great and have settled really well into boarding life.
It was lovely to host our Boarder’s Orientation on the weekend of the 30th/31st January. The new boys in Middle School seem to have gelled incredibly well as a group already, and as Mr Mecham pointed out on the Sunday, the parent group seem to have a great connection too! I hope you keep it up and look for opportunities to catch up as a group because before you know it, you will be in the position of our current Year 12 parents who are having a catch up to celebrate their sons’ going to their Year 12 Ball! I am sure Fran Hannington’s Whatsapp group for parents will be an excellent avenue of communication and I trust you will love the parenting journey of Scotch Boarding.
Our calendar is already filling up with some really important events. I mentioned the Yr 12 Ball earlier and that also heads straight into the Yr 12 Bibbulmun Track walk to Albany. We will be holding a function in Albany the Friday night before the boys walk in to the Southern Terminus and we encourage all of those families nearby to come along. The Saturday lunchtime will be a more intimate event for the families of the boys who did the walk but we encourage you to come and see the boys walk and hear the bagpipes fill the streets of Albany. A very big congratulations to George Purser and Ben Nixon who will be completing the track End-to-End, what a fantastic achievement! I think it takes a special type of resilience to complete the track amongst a year group that has seen so many others unable to do so. We hope to have more boys complete the track in future years and I encourage parents to continue to encourage your sons to persevere in their senior years when the track becomes optional, it is such a unique and wonderful achievement.
This weekend, the boys have a mobile mini golf set up coming to the Boarding House on Saturday as part of the weekend recreation programme. We are looking to make a bit of light competition by making it our first “Clash of Clans” event, so Stirling and Blair will form teams and square off to see who wins the chocolates! The Middle School boys will be divided into clan groups for the purpose of the event. We also have the Scotch pool and gym booked for Friday night and will be taking some boys to the beach on Sunday. Due to COVID, we are limiting our interaction with other schools and also limiting boys access to Leave for this weekend. Next weekend (all things going well) we have booked for the boys to go to Adventure World! It should be a good start to the year, with plenty for the boys to do.
Finally, I would like to alert families in the Narrogin, Wagin, Williams area that I am heading to your neck of the woods in a couple of weeks time, on Thursday 25th February. Mrs Marika Ball, House Mother in the Senior house and myself will be at the Est. 1978 Café, 45 Federal St Narrogin from 6:30pm-8:30pm and light refreshments will be provided. Please come along and bring any OSC families or prospective families along with you! It will be a great chance to come and see families in the area and speak about Scotch Boarding. You would have been sent a more official invitation if you live in the area, but I thought I would mention it here too.
Thanks again to all families for such a good positive start to term and for being so adaptable in the circumstances. As always, please get in touch if you have any questions or concerns. I wish you all a lovely weekend.
Kind regards
Jordan

Not only is this a convenient service but is highly recommended for the protection against dental injuries. Dental injuries can occur in both training sessions and competition, in all contact sports. It is considered that custom fitted laminated mouthguards are the best protection against dental injuries, which can be debilitating and expensive.
THE STEPS YOU NEED TO FOLLOW:
- If require a mouthguard for your son/s, firstly go online to www.galadent.com.au to book in their appointment. Click on ‘Mouthguard Booking’ and follow the prompts. You will be required to book in your son/s individually. Upon successfully booking in your appointment/s, you will receive a confirmation email.

All the types, colours and costs of the various mouthguards are outlined in the mouthguard form. There is also a brief explanation for each type of mouthguard, to help assist you in determining which type of mouthguard to select. If you are still unsure, this can be determined when your son/s are having their impression done.
Payment is required on the day/night and you have the option to either complete your credit card details on the form, pay by cheque (made payable to Galadent Dental) or pay in cash. If paying with a cheque or cash, please place this in a sealed envelope with your son’s details on the front.
The mouthguards will be delivered back to the school, within 3 weeks, in time for Winter sports. An itemised account/receipt for your son/s mouthguard will be emailed directly to you, so please ensure that you have completed your email address on the mouthguard form.
