Week 10, Summer Term 2023
Dear Boarding Families
I hope you get to read this as you are relaxing away with your boys back in the nest. I want to thank all families for their support over the past term and I wish you all a very restful and fulfilling break.
The past two weeks have been incredible in boarding, with some really good recreation activities on the weekends and some expeditions out on the Bib Track. The boarding houses have been in a good routine, albeit we are always reflecting on how we can make it better.
Next term as the boys return they will have new bedrooms and roommates and much of that movement happened this week. In the Senior House in particular, the Year 9s and 10s downstairs will be in Clan groups, with Stirling Clan filling the northern corridors and Blair Clan filling the Southern corridors. This is to allow our to new House Parents to get to know their boys and to get to know their habits. It will also help to build some relationships and identity amongst the younger boys in the Clans.
The senior boys will return to an examination period and a new season of PSA sport. I hope they enjoy a restful break, but also that the senior boys spend some time reading over some study notes. A special mention to the pipe band boys who fly off to Virginia, USA for their tour!
It was wonderful to have our new House Parents, Kerry and Theresa join us at the Boarding Parent Sundowner last night and get to meet so many parents. I am really looking forward to them forming a great team with the Senior School boarding staff, our boys and parents.
The Middle School has been action packed in the last few weeks with Year 7 Camp and Year 8 Bib Track, we have also had cross country, sports dinners and parent teacher interviews. Last Sunday we were lucky enough to spend a day with the Year 7s at Rottnest for a rec activity, it was a real pleasure getting to spend the time with them and the boys’ behaviour was outstanding.
Mr Mecham and Mr Mellor have just returned from walking the Bib Track with the Year 8s and by all accounts the guys had a great time. They have come back tired and happy. The work they did on bib was not just physical, they also took the chance to do some reflection about what they are truly grateful for in life, unsurprisingly, stories of how special their parents are, came to light! Mr Mecham was also explaining a great activity they did around the circle where they had to collect either a rock, a stick or a leaf. The boys then had to talk about “what rocked”, “what will stick with them” and “what they would leaf behind”. Not only was it a great reflection activity for the boys, the puns were right down Mr Mecham’s alley!
Thank you to all that attended last night’s Sundowner and this morning’s parent committee meeting. It was wonderful to see you all and look forward to sharing more good times in the year ahead.
All the best
