Blair Clan – Mid Term Update – Week 4, Summer Term 2023
Wow… the 2023 calendar year is well underway, and it has been busy, busy busy…
Here’s what your sons have been up to in boarding:
Year 9
- Our Year 9’s have got into the swing of things. We welcomed Hugh Fairclough (brother of William in Year 11), back to boarding.
- Boys enjoyed Recreation activities:

- The Year 9 Rottnest Camp wraps up today. Boys spent each day in their houses getting to know their House Head and the boys they will spend the next four years with.I had the privilege of attending and running the beach games sessions. Over the five sessions I spent time with each house and got to see the boys in action.
- The boys attended my house for a BBQ dinner on Friday 10th An opportunity for the boys to meet my family (Jodie my wife, Holly (20) my daughter and my two sons Aubrey (13, Year 8) and Fergus (9, Year 5)). Backyard cricket was such a hit that we took it out onto the oval.
Year 10
- The year 10 boys have set an excellent standard with their improved approach to their academic endeavours. It has been noted by Mr. Montgomery, and many of our tutors the application and standard these boys are setting on the whole.

- The boys have begun their Keys4Life program, completing Lesson 1 & 2. I expect to be able to announce a date for an online Keys4LifeParent (and Student) information session in the coming week. I encourage you to speak to your son about what they are experiencing within the program.
Year 11
- Boys have been busy inside the second term of their year 11 courses. Some boys have been preparing for OLNA testing which was undertaken this week.
- Boys were given the option to enjoy the following Recreation activities:

- The boys have completed their “Tomorrow Man” program, but will take part in a one-off Pilot, Tomorrow Woman (Her Code), co-facilitated by a female staff member, it is designed for participants to gain a deeper understanding of the complexities and challenges of being a woman in 2023. Our sister school PLC participate in the Tomorrow Woman workshops.
Year 12

- Kaymus Brierly has been doing some Lifeguarding over Summer. Kaymus was a part of Royal Lifesaving WA’s “Talent Pool” program, which saw him achieve his First Aid Certificate, Bronze Medallion and Pool Lifeguard Qualifications. It is great to see Kaymus along with Solomon Short (Spring Term) taking initiative to earn qualifications that will allow them to have jobs over the summer months!
- The boys attended the boarding pre-ball function on Saturday 18th of February before heading off on limousine rides etc…I was lucky enough to attend the Ball as well as the Pre-Ball function.
PSA Sport
- It was great to see Ben Brierley, Rylan Firth, Harrison Hammond, Hudson Hammond, Cooper Messina all invited to compete in the Swimming Age Group Championships based on their performances at the Interhouse Swimming Carnival.
- Jayden Clarke continues to be a part of the 1st V Basketball team. They currently sit 4th on the ladder with 4 wins and 5 losses.
- Jensen Westerman continues to be a part of the 1st VI Volleyball team. They currently sit in 5th place with a 3 win and 6 loss record.
- Boys have been involved in plenty of sports, with many playing in 2nd’s teams for Basketball, Cricket, Tennis and Water Polo.

Blair Clan Teams Meeting
It was great to speak to some of the parents of our year 9 boys last week. Look out for a calendar invite for a Whole of Clan Parent Teams Meeting before the end of term.
