Week 5, Autumn Term 2020
Dear Boarding Families
I sincerely hope that you all have a fantastic long weekend this weekend. Take the time to relax with family and reflect upon the important things in life. As much as this has been a crazy and uncertain time for many of us, we have a lot to be grateful for.
I invite boys and families to share a photo of themselves at home as a way to time-stamp this unique time in our lives and share it with us so that we can create an album of all of our boys in 2020. A photo of our boys doing something they love at home or a family snap would be fantastic. It can be one from this weekend, something from the home-schooling experience, or a recent one from the summer break. Please email photos to ResidentialLife.Admin@scotch.wa.edu.au so that we can create an album that celebrates our boarding families at Scotch. We have something in mind, stay tuned…
I am so thrilled to be here at Scotch and working within our residential community. The past two months have been some of the busiest, and yet, some of the most enjoyable of my career. I am really looking forward to the work ahead, including the return of all of our boarders on Monday. I will be in the Middle School Boarding House on Monday afternoon to welcome our young boys and their families back to Scotch alongside Mr Templar and Mrs Ball.
Finally, I wanted to write to parents this week to ask for any interested parents to join a Residential Parents Support Group. I am looking to set up a committee of interested and passionate parents from a range of year groups, regions, and backgrounds. The committee would provide a sounding board for any boarding initiatives and address community inquiries. We could also look to organise community functions, either at Scotch or on the road! Please email me if you are interested in being involved. Jordan.Owenell@scotch.wa.edu.au
Warm regards,
Jordan
Housekeeping
Every Boarder needs a Perth based Guardian, so if you haven’t sent your son’s guardianship form back, please have the guardian sign and email to ResidentialLife.Admin@scotch.wa.edu.au
We also need you to provide us with an Application to Return to Boarding. This must be signed by parents and returned when you son starts again in boarding. Please return to your Head of Year or House Mother on arrival in the Boarding House.
Holiday Travel Arrangements
It is only 4 weeks until the July Holidays, so we need you to start adding travel details for your boys into the REACH Leave System.
Just as a reminder: When completing your son’s Holiday Travel Arrangements please use the ‘Holiday Travel Arrangements’ leave type. Please do not use ‘Overnight Leave’, ‘School Approved Leave’, etc. By using the ‘Holiday Travel Arrangements’ leave type it makes it easier for us to sort the leave and make sure we don’t miss anyone.
For those requiring Scotch to arrange transport to either the airport or train station please use the following template within the notes section:
Transport Required: Yes/No
Flight/Train Number:
Flight/Train Departure Time:
Time required to be at Airport/Train Station:
Does your son require an Unaccompanied Travel Form? Yes/No
Is Transport required upon return? Yes/No

NB: Please remember that boarding boys have been given permission to leave the College from 1pm (school finishes 3.25pm) on Friday. However, if they are leaving after school then they are expected to attend all of their remaining classes.
If you are having connection issues then please contact Michelle or Jan and they will enter the details for you.
