Week 3, Autumn Term 2020
WELCOME TO OUR NEW HEAD OF RESIDENTIAL LIFE – Jordan Owenell
Dear Boarding Families,
It has been a big few weeks in boarding and I am mindful that you have had a lot of communication over that time but I would like to just re-connect on a more casual level and give you a short update on boarding. I would also like to acknowledge our farming families in particular, who have been incredibly busy with their seeding programmes on top of all the drama that has been unfolding at School. Our regional and remote families too, have had extra obstacles with regards to organising flights and Perth-based accommodation. I want to again extend my thanks to families for their patience and support of Scotch during this time.
We are thrilled to be welcoming boys and their families back to Scotch. There has been an emptiness around boarding in the past few weeks and we are happy to get things back up and running! For those families who are staying home until the mid-term break, please continue to stay connected and access our help whenever you need it.
We are now at a stage where we have invited back boys from Yrs 9-12 and we have around 30 boys back in boarding. All of those boys are accommodated in single rooms and we will be able to maintain that until the mid-term break. The Middle School Boarding House is undergoing some refurbishments to the sleeping quarters and that will be completed by the time the boys return after the long weekend.
With regards to Middle School boarding, I am thrilled to announce that we have a new House Mother! Marika Ball has accepted the position and will be there to greet families from the 1st June with Mr Templar and myself. Marika is a mother of two girls and has a degree in psychology. Her recent work experience has been as a Parent Support Coach for Communicare. Her calm and positive demeanour has been very evident in all of our interactions and we are very excited to welcome Marika to our Residential community.
Finally, I have recently done a short video for the College and I wanted to share it with families as a way of getting to know myself and my family, as well as our excitement to be re-joining the Scotch community. It also gives you a chance to see the face behind all the emails you have been getting! Please see the link below and I hope you enjoy. I look forward to meeting you all in person soon.
All the best
Jordan
