Week 6, Summer Term 2020
Dear Parents
I’ve been thinking about the Head of the River Rowing Regatta coming up in two weeks’ time and all of the Boarding boys from Year 8-12 in the crews. It is the PSA event that draws the single biggest crowd to an event by far. HoR is the culmination of some really long hours for our rowers. Early starts, long Saturdays, hours in the gym, lots of rigging and de rigging and kilos of pasta. Now with it almost on us, the most useful preparation strategy the boys can adopt is to stay healthy, and the most valuable drill they can run with is to wash their hands – with soap, multiple times a day. Before meals, after toilet, after sport, before bed. According to the WHO hand washing with soap is the most effective preventative measure in contacting or spreading contagious diseases such as influenza, gastroenteritis, mumps, measles and whopping cough. It sounds such a simple thing, but like the 20c washer in the jumbo jet engine, or the Spruce beetle in the Alaskan forests, the little things if not attended to can bring down giants. The same advice and strategy holds true for a healthy Boarding House.
Photo of the week is from the long weekend in Albany and the culmination of another successful Bib Track experience for 15 of our Year 12 boys. To the parents and grandparents, who drove miles to be there at the finish, thank you, it underscored a remarkable achievement for these boys. Congratulations to Mr Bradley who after 12 years and 2756km on Bib Track expeditions can now finally call himself an End to Ender. Well done Matt.
Yours sincerely

Yr 9 Rottnest Camp
The Year 9’s Rottnest Camp was a huge success and the boys loved Captain S. R. Mecham’s Sand Sculpture activities. There are more photo’s of the Rotto Camp under the Year 9 tab.
2020 Academic Check Up
The Academic Check Up programme is available to regional students in Year 2 and above. The programme offers boys the opportunity to be assessed annually on their progress in reading, writing and numeracy and provides support with recommended reading lists, websites and software. There is no charge for this programme and is open to all boys, regardless of whether or not they are registered with Scotch College.
The Academic Check Up programme gives regional families an insight as to how their son is performing in relation to the boys at Scotch College, their areas of strength and their areas for development.
If you know of any families who may be interested in this programme then please ask them to contact Di Moran in Admissions.
The next testing day is being held on 21st March 2020.
