Week 3, Summer Term 2020
Year 12 Ball, End to Enders and a quick recovery for our Captain
Our Senior boys have and will be the centre of attention over the first 4 weeks of the term. Last Wednesday the Boarders Council introduced themselves and welcomed in the new boys at the first whole of Residential Life student meeting. One of the big themes from the Boarders Council is the emphasis they are placing on developing Residential Life spirit, unity and integration. Their plan is to achieve this through a multi-age competition-based approach with an emphasis on getting boys in all years involved in competitive activity. Touch Football, Volleyball, Speed Chess and a Pool Comp will be early activities designed to bring boys from each of the three houses together in a competitive but collegiate endeavour.
On collegiate endeavours that build spirit and unity, sixteen Year 12’s will finish the Bib Track in Albany on the coming long weekend. Long after school has finished and the grades, sports results and social events have faded into the broader picture of life, one of the experiences that will remain large and be often returned to in conversation and reminisces by our Boarders is the Bib Track experience. Particularly the completion of the final three legs. The sense of achievement in completing something difficult, something that doesn’t fully make sense or can be appreciated for all that it offers until it is done, is a rare thing in society where instant reward for effort is increasingly the norm. I’m looking forward to welcoming those boys over the line in Albany in three weeks time and also looking forward to their stories motivating or sustaining the next groups of boys to stick at it and experience the pleasure of having completed something that is tough.
Ball season has arrived for our Year 12’s with a number of boys very privileged to receive invites to the PLC Ball last Saturday. However, the real excitement is building through the preparations for the Scotch Ball this Saturday “The Night Circus Ball”. Suit fittings, shoes, shirt and bows ties are all under control, corsages have been ordered, it is just a matter of looking sharp on the day and remembering that smiling, dancing and making sure your partner is having a great time is compulsory, and that discussing your personal sporting highlights is probably not the enchanting conversation your partner will be hoping for.
We’re also wishing a speedy recovery to Residential Life Captain Patrick Eastough who marched at Friday Assembly last week and was in hospital awaiting an appendectomy by lunch time. Hoping you make it back in time for the The Night Circus Ball Patrick.
Yours sincerely

Online Medical
At the beginning of each term we ask that you check your son’s online Medical details. Please go to Home.Scotch and search for the Medical & Information Check. It will ask you to log in and then please check both the Medical details and your Contact details.
Any changes are notified directly to the Health Centre for their information and action.
If you have a Year 12 completing the Bib Track, please ensure his online medical details are up to date.
Taxi’s versus Uber’s
We have had enquiries regarding the use of Uber’s instead of ordering a Taxi. In terms of safety, Taxi’s are our preferred option, because Taxi drivers have Police Clearances and Working with Children Check’s as part of their licensing. Uber’s do not have any requirement for either and we advise that Under 18 year olds only travel in Taxi’s. If you need to discuss this further, please contact your Residential Head of Year directly.
End to Enders Function Albany
If you are in Albany over the long weekend, please join us to celebrate the Yr 12’s walking through at the End to Enders function being held at Due South, Albany on Friday, 28th February from 6:30 to 8:30pm.
Richard Ledger and Richard Hales will be there to meet with you, then on Saturday the boys walk through the Southern Terminus to much fanfare and proud families.
Last Week – due to a medical emergency, last week’s Blog was not sent. Here are some of the photo’s of the Middle School Swimming Carnival and the Adventure World recreation event.
