Week 9, Winter Term 2019
Middle School Highland Games
Today the tradition of the Highland games returned to Scotch with the Middle School boys participating in a wide range of traditional Scottish events. Some of the favorites were the tug of war and a modified version of the caber toss. Very fortunate for a beautiful day, if only it could have been the same for the Athletics carnival.

Spirit Award, Year 12 Farewell Dinner and March Out
Even though we have wished the Year 12’s farewell they are due back for the first week of school next term, and during that week, we have a lot happening and it would be great if we could have all boys present for the three events mentioned above. On the Wednesday evening before dinner we will present the Photo Competition and SPIRIT Award winners for 2019. We are aware that this may clash with some of the House Head Dinners and understand that these should be a priority, but if possible we would like to see the boys between 5.30pm and 6.00pm. A reminder also that the Year 12 Boarding Farewell Dinner is on the Thursday night and invitations for this night have been emailed out to all Year 12 Boarding families, it is a great night and we look forward to seeing everybody there. The week rounds out with the Year 12 Final ‘Handover’ Assembly and March Out. March Out is a must to be at and it is a highlight for all Year 12 parents.
A very busy, but memorable week for all our Year 12’s and their families and we look forward to the upcoming week.
2020 Orientation Day and Sleep Over
As it is for every year now we say goodbye to the Year 12’s on the Friday and then first thing on Saturday morning we welcome our new crop of Year 7 and 8 boys and families for the 2020 Orientation Weekend. The Orientation Weekend is the commencement to our ‘Welcome To Scotch’ program and over the past couple of years has proved very successful in settling the boys anxieties before arriving for the start of school in January. This is a very exciting weekend and one we are all very much looking forward to.
Term 4 Return
A reminder that we begin school on Wednesday 16 October so all boys are expected back on Tuesday 15th. The Boarding Houses will be open from 3pm and we would like everyone back in by 5.30pm.
Year 7/8 and 9 House Pack Up
Over these holidays the Year 7/8 and 9 Houses are being rented out so we need the boys to completely pack up their rooms and store their gear. It would certainly assist us if you could take any excess clothes home, particularly the heavy winter gear, as we expect that the weather will a bit warmer when the boys return. The House Mother’s have already been warning the boys of what is happening and if you could please reinforce the message it would be greatly appreciated.
Holiday Travel Arrangements – Term 4!
All arrangements should now be entered into REACH for this Term’s holidays, and your attention should be (that is, if your son flies home) on the end of the year. With school having different finishing days for each Year Group it is important that you know what date your son is finishing so that you book the appropriate train or plane.
The Middle School like to have all Year 8 boys here for the Middle School Speech Night because predominantly the night is designed to say farewell to the Year 8’s. We will be keeping the Boarding House open on this night for those Year 8 boys who need to stay on and will organize transport to the airport or train station the following day. If you need any help with understanding when your son is due to leave then please feel free to contact Michelle or Jan.
The same could also be said for any Year 9 to 12 boys who might receive an award at Speech night on the last day of the year. We will keep the Boarding Houses open that extra night and provide transport on the following day so the boys can attend if they wish.

2019 Academic Check Up – 19 October 2019
The Academic Check Up programme is available to regional students in Year 2 and above. The programme offers boys the opportunity to be assessed annually on their progress in reading, writing and numeracy and provides support with recommended reading lists, websites and software. There is no charge for this programme and is open to all boys, regardless of whether or not they are registered with Scotch College.
The Academic Check Up programme gives regional families an insight as to how their son is performing in relation to the boys at Scotch College, their areas of strength and their areas for development.
If you know of any families who may be interested in this programme then please ask them to contact Di Moran in Admissions.
Wishing you all an awesome holiday break.
