Week 2, Winter Term 2019
A wet week in Perth but not so bad where Scott and I have been for the past few days in Exmouth and Carnarvon. We have had an enjoyable trip catching up with families from both regions and it has been great to get out and see the places where our families come from. Grant and Matt head to Moora, Mingenew and Geraldton next week with details with what they are up to below.
During the week at school we have been celebrating Naidoc Week and our boys have been very active in promoting their culture throughout the school community. Next week we will highlight a few of the activities that have occurred.
Two weeks left of Winter Sport before athletics kicks in so we wish all the boys well for their remaining games.
Cybersafety – Safe on Social
Previously, we have advertised a blog that has been published by “Safe On Social”, a website that discusses the latest happenings in cyberland as well as highlighting any potential sites or trends that we as parents and teachers should be aware of. To keep up to date with the latest “be aware” trends we suggest subscribing to this site’s online newsletter.

Year 11 and 12 Exam Readiness Program
Last Sunday the School Library was open from 9.30am to 12.30pm for the Year 11 and 12 boarders to begin their study prep for their end of term exams and this will continue for the next few weeks. A number of Year 11’s took advantage of the opportunity while the Year 12’s need a little bit more encouragment. The main focus for these sessions is purely on preparing notes for future study and the revision of old exam papers. Matt Bradley will be supervising these sessions to begin with and will be there to provide the boys with any assistance that they may require.
Our Elevate Education Sessions have expressed how important it is to have time to develop high quality notes and that these should be compiled prior to the examination period commencing.
Last ELEVATE Session for Year 12’s
The next Elevate session is booked in for Monday 26th August, 7pm-8pm, in the Senior House. The session is titled ‘The Finishing Line’ and is for the ATAR and Diploma Year 12 students. For a more extensive outline of this program please click HERE!!
Mingenew Midwest Expo
The Mingenew Midwest Expo is being held on the 14th and 15th of August. Grant Bennett and Matt Bradley will be attending along with over 300 leading industry experts showcasing agricultural and farming knowhow. The Expo is in it’s 37th year and attracts thousands of visitors from neighbouring towns, farming communities and the big smoke.
Grant and Matt will be holding two informal functions; one at “Jeanne d’ Moore” at the Moora Club on Tuesday 13 August from 6.30 to 8.30pm and then on the next night (Wednesday 14 August) at The Provincial Hotel in Geraldton from 6:00 to 8:30pm. This is an ideal opportunity to catch up with Grant and Matt and keep up to date with progress at Scotch College. Please encourage any new families to come along and hear what Scotch has to offer their sons.
Athletics Carnival Sausage Sizzle
This year the Senior School Athletics Carnival will all be held on Friday 30th August and will not continue through on to the Saturday so we thought it would be a good opportunity to organise a Sausage Sizzle for all who can come down to watch after the day concludes. More details to follow and we would encourage you to add the date into your calendar.
2019 Academic Check Up
The Academic Check Up programme is available to regional students in Year 2 and above. The programme offers boys the opportunity to be assessed annually on their progress in reading, writing and numeracy and provides support with recommended reading lists, websites and software. There is no charge for this programme and is open to all boys, regardless of whether or not they are registered with Scotch College.
The Academic Check Up programme gives regional families an insight as to how their son is performing in relation to the boys at Scotch College, their areas of strength and their areas for development.
If you know of any families who may be interested in this programme then please ask them to contact Di Moran in Admissions.
Wishing you all a great weekend!!
