Week 1, Winter Term 2019
Welcome back to Winter Term and for the Senior School the final Academic Term for the year. We hope that everyone had a restful break and enjoyed that extra week that we are very lucky to have. For the Year 11 and 12’s this is a relatively short term with the 11’s rolling into exams during Weeks 8 and 9 and the Year 12 Mock exams starting in Week 9.
There was also no ‘ease in’ period for the First Sporting Teams as they played Wesley on Tuesday afternoon and then back up again tomorrow against Christ Church. There are only three Winter Sport fixtures left for the season and then we head into Athletics.
A short blog this week mainly to highlight the start of Field Day Season and ensure that you send in those last minute photos for this year’s photo competition.
Year 7/8 Chinese Lunch
The Year 7/8 boys who are in the House tomorrow are heading to Fremantle to enjoy a Chinese Meal at one of our families restaurants, the Vivisen Tea House. They are leaving here at 11.30am and will be returning by 1.30pm so those who have Dockers tickets can head off to the afternoon game.
Year 11 and 12 Exam Readiness Program
From this Sunday the School Library will be open from 9.30am to 12.30pm for the Year 11 and 12 boarders to begin their study prep for their end of term exams. The main focus for these sessions is purely on preparing notes for future study and the revision of old exam papers. Matt Bradley will be supervising these sessions to begin with and will be there to provide the boys with any assistance that they may require.
Our Elevate Education Sessions have expressed how important it is to have time to develop high quality notes and that these should be compiled prior to the examination period commencing.
Carnarvon and Exmouth Visit
Marcus Wilkinson and Scott Siekierka are planning to be in and around Exmouth and Carnarvon from Tuesday 6th August to Saturday 10th August. There are two functions planned; one in Exmouth at Manatarays Ningaloo Reef Resort on Tuesday 6 August from 6.30pm to 8.30pm and the other in Carnarvon at The Port Hotel-Motel on Thursday 8 August from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. If in the area please feel free to drop in for a chat.
Mingenew Midwest Expo
The Mingenew Midwest Expo is being held on the 14th and 15th of August. Grant Bennett and Matt Bradley will be attending along with over 300 leading industry experts showcasing agricultural and farming knowhow. The Expo is in it’s 37th year and attracts thousands of visitors from neighbouring towns, farming communities and the big smoke.
Grant and Matt will be holding two informal functions; one at “Jeanne d’ Moore” at the Moora Club on Tuesday 13 August from 6.30 to 8.30pm and then on the next night (Wednesday 14 August) at The Provincial Hotel in Geraldton from 6:00 to 8:30pm. This is an ideal opportunity to catch up with Grant and Matt and keep up to date with progress at Scotch College. Please encourage any new families to come along and hear what Scotch has to offer their sons.

Athletics Carnival Sausage Sizzle
This year the Senior School Athletics Carnival will all occur on Friday 30th August and will not continue through on to the Saturday so we thought it would be a good opportunity to organise a Sausage Sizzle for all who can come down to watch after the day concludes. More details to follow and we would encourage you to add the date into your calendar.
2019 Academic Check Up
The Academic Check Up programme is available to regional students in Year 2 and above. The programme offers boys the opportunity to be assessed annually on their progress in reading, writing and numeracy and provides support with recommended reading lists, websites and software. There is no charge for this programme and is open to all boys, regardless of whether or not they are registered with Scotch College.
The Academic Check Up programme gives regional families an insight as to how their son is performing in relation to the boys at Scotch College, their areas of strength and their areas for development.
If you know of any families who may be interested in this programme then please ask them to contact Di Moran in Admissions.
For 1 Week Only The Photo Competition will remain OPEN!!!
