Week 10, Autumn Term 2019
The holidays have arrived and everyone here is very much looking forward to taking a break for a few weeks. In so saying there are a number of tours; History, Pipe Band and Canberra, as well as Year 10 Outdoor Education Expeditions happening over the break so even though it is the holidays we are still keeping extremely busy. We wish all those involved with the tours and expeditions a safe and exciting trip.

Next Term Returns
Please be aware that the Houses are open from 1.30pm on Monday 29 July for when the boys return. This earlier opening time is to accommodate the Afternoon Teas that are occurring in the 7/8 and 9 Houses. Dinner will be served from 5.30pm and as usual you are more than welcome to join your son before heading home.
Athletics Carnival Sausage Sizzle
This year the Senior School Athletics Carnival will all occur on Friday 30 August and will not continue through on to the Saturday so we thought it would be a good opportunity to organise a Sausage Sizzle for all who can come down to watch after the day concludes. More details to follow and we would encourage you to add the date into your calendar.
Clontarf Academy – Kununurra
This week we have had a group staying with us from the Clontarf Academy in Kununurra. They are down for Country Week and have enjoyed staying within our facilities. This is a reciprocal arrangement as we have boys from the Middle School visiting their region during next term in which they will be given a grand tour of the Kimberley.
Tea and Scones Afternoon Tea
The Year 7/8 and 9 Houses would like to invite their respective parents to a Tea and Scones Afternoon between 2.30 and 3.30pm when the boys return to the Boarding Houses on Monday 29 July. Both Houses will be individually hosting their own afternoon tea and thought it would be a good opportunity for families to reconnect after the holidays and have a small bite to eat before heading on home.
For catering purposes could you please let Kim (Year 7/8) or Fran (Year 9) know if you are planning on attending.
2019 Academic Check Up
The Academic Check Up programme is available to regional students in Year 2 and above. The programme offers boys the opportunity to be assessed annually on their progress in reading, writing and numeracy and provides support with recommended reading lists, websites and software. There is no charge for this programme and is open to all boys, regardless of whether or not they are registered with Scotch College.
The Academic Check Up programme gives regional families an insight as to how their son is performing in relation to the boys at Scotch College, their areas of strength and their areas for development.
If you know of any families who may be interested in this programme then please ask them to contact Di Moran in Admissions.
Carnarvon and Exmouth Visit
Marcus Wilkinson and Scott Siekierka are planning to be in and around Exmouth and Carnarvon from Monday 5th August to Saturday 10th August. We are very keen to catch up with families in the area as well as create some opportunities to meet with families who are potentially looking at Scotch as an option for their children in the future. If there are any families within these regions who would like to assist us with organising a small get together and/or possibly know of some future families who you think might like to ask us a few questions about what we do here at Scotch, then please contact Michelle or Jan.
Mingenew Midwest Expo
The Mingenew Midwest Expo is being held on the 14th and 15th of August. Grant Bennett and Matt Bradley will be attending along with over 300 leading industry experts showcasing agricultural and farming knowhow. The Expo is in it’s 37th year and attracts thousands of visitors from neighbouring towns, farming communities and the big smoke.
Grant and Matt will be holding an informal function at The Provincial from 6:00 to 8:30pm. This is an ideal opportunity to catch up with Grant and Matt and keep up to date with progress at Scotch College. Please encourage any new families to come along and hear what Scotch has to offer their sons.
We’ll see you in Mingenew!
A Reminder About the Photo Competition
