Visiting Exchange Teacher
For the past couple of weeks we have had Simon Walker visiting us from the Fountain Valley School in Colorado. Simon has been residing and working within our Residential Community. He is visiting Scotch as part of Round Square’s teacher exchange/visiting program. Simon has been involving himself in many of our activities throughout the last couple of weeks and it has been great to have someone around who can provide us with insights into how other schools run their boarding programs.
As Simon is English and loves rugby, he has thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to assist with the the Year 10 Rugby team, as unfortunately, Rugby isn’t a sport that is too often played in America.
Scott Siekierka will be visiting some schools in Canada later in the year as a part of a similar program.
Year 9’s Night On The Town
Sean Mecham and the Year 9’s enjoyed a night out for Chinese at Bao Bao’s in Perth. This night is part of a new initiative where we are looking at exposing our boys to various cultures through food. It was certainly well received by the boys and you can read more about their night HERE!!
Year 10 Tomorrow Man
On Tuesday the Year 10’s completed part 3 of their Tomorrow Man program with their final session scheduled for Monday 12 August.
Year 11 PARTY Program
On Wednesday 12 June our Year 11’s took part in the P.A.R.T.Y. program. The Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth (PARTY) Program is an injury prevention initiative run at Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) and provides our boys with an insight as to what happens if you are affected by Trauma. The PARTY Program provides useful, relevant information to young people to help them recognise potential injury-causing situations and make informed prevention-oriented choices about activities. It is also designed to help them adopt behaviours and actions that minimise risk. In order to completely involve the students in the experience of injury and recovery, the group is taken through the common course of injury and treatment of someone involved in a trauma, often due to risk-taking behaviours.
Year 12 City After Dark Tour
On Wednesday the 19th June our Year 12’s participated in the City After Dark Tour, run by WA Police Officers and supported by Constable Care Child Safety Tour Assistants.
“When darkness falls, and workers leave, young people become more vulnerable in this darker, quieter environment. City After Dark leads 30 students and their parents/teachers on a 3-hour walking of the CBD, teaching them how to identify risks and avoid dangerous situations.
The program has a strong educational focus and uses participative, experiential learning.”
This is the first time that we have been involved this program and it was a really worthwhile experience and I’m sure the Year 12’s will talk about the night further in their end of term report.

2019 Academic Check Up
The Academic Check Up programme is available to regional students in Year 2 and above. The programme offers boys the opportunity to be assessed annually on their progress in reading, writing and numeracy and provides support with recommended reading lists, websites and software. There is no charge for this programme and is open to all boys, regardless of whether or not they are registered with Scotch College.
The Academic Check Up programme gives regional families an insight as to how their son is performing in relation to the boys at Scotch College, their areas of strength and their areas for development.
If you know of any families who may be interested in this programme then please ask them to contact Di Moran in Admissions.
Mingenew Midwest Expo
The Mingenew Midwest Expo is being held on the 14th and 15th of August. Grant Bennett and Matt Bradley will be attending along with over 300 leading industry experts showcasing agricultural and farming knowhow. The Expo is in it’s 37th year and attracts thousands of visitors from neighbouring towns, farming communities and the big smoke.
Grant and Matt will be holding an informal function at The Provincial from 6:00 to 8:30pm. This is an ideal opportunity to catch up with Grant and Matt and keep up to date with progress at Scotch College. Please encourage any new families to come along and hear what Scotch has to offer their sons.
We’ll see you in Mingenew!’
A Reminder About the Photo Competition
