Week 5, Autumn Term 2019
Happy Long Weekend!!
Even though we know many of our regional families are busy with seeding at the moment we hope you get some down time to spend it with your son’s during this four day break, or at least get them on a tractor (or vacuum cleaner!!) while you take a break!!
For some of our overseas and remote families the long weekend is a difficult time because a combination of costs and distance mean it is just not practical for the boys to get home. We certainly hope they are going to enjoy some time with extended family or friends where catching up with parents may not be possible.
Quite a short turn around before the next set of holidays when the boys return on Monday so we will be endeavoring to settle them quickly and get straight back into routine.
Holiday Travel Details
Thanks to all of you who entered your leave early for the Long Weekend, unfortunately yesterday we were chasing a number of boys and families who had not done this and for us this is extremely frustrating and time consuming. With only three weekends to go before the next holidays can you please attempt to get your travel plans into REACH ASAP.
AG Day 2019
A massive WELL DONE to Ash Keatch and the Year 12 Leadership Group who put together an amazing AG Day on Tuesday. The whole idea of moving the day down to the Boarding Houses, introduction of machinery and involvement of the Junior and Middle School elevated the day to a new level which was certainly enjoyed by all, especially the Junior School!! It was great to see so many boys and staff dressed up to celebrate the day!!
I will leave it to Ash to do the thank you’s and announce the money raised from this years event!! It was a great day!!
Hot off the press this article just appeared in this weeks Post!!
Year 7 Bib Track
The Year 7’s start their Bib Track adventure next week with Group 1 heading out from Wednesday to Thursday and Group 2 from Thursday to Friday. They have spent this week getting organised and as you can see by the photos below they ‘appear’ ready to go!! Group 2 will have three new boys; Lachlan Willmott, Loch MacTaggart and William Fairclough join them as they begin their transition into being Scotch students next year.
Indigenous Round
Last week the PSA competition celebrated our Indigneous foundations through our sporting fixture. Both Wesley and Scotch wore specially designed Indigenous Jumpers as well as participated in a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony. The below video captures the Welcome to Country that was performed before the AFL match commenced last week.
Scotch/PLC Year 11/12 Boarders Dance
Last Saturday night was the Scotch/PLC Year 11 and 12 Boarders Dance and another successful night was held. Again, a big thank you to Ash and the Year 12 Leadership Team who worked extremely hard, alongside the girls from PLC, to create a great night for all who attended. A few photos below but more can be found by visiting Vidigami.
Mid Term Holiday Bus Run
From all reports the first stage of the holiday bus run was a success with Matt and Richard successfully dropping off all of their passengers and making it through to Geraldton!! Stage two of the journey will commence on Monday and we look forward to everyone returning then!!
Year 11 PARTY Program
On Wednesday 12 June our Year 11’s will partake in the P.A.R.T.Y. program for this year. We are again very fortunate to be able to be involved with this program as only about 50 schools a year have the opportunity to attend.
The Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth (PARTY) Program is an injury prevention initiative run at Royal Perth Hospital (RPH).
Once a week during the school year, a group of young adults aged 14 to 18 visit RPH to learn about trauma, i.e. injury. The PARTY Program provides useful, relevant information to young people to help them recognise potential injury-causing situations and make informed prevention-oriented choices about activities. It is also designed to help them adopt behaviours and actions that minimise risk.
In order to completely involve the students in the experience of injury and recovery, the group is taken through the common cause of injury and treatment of someone involved in a trauma, often due to risk-taking behaviours.
Through a variety of teaching techniques (including interactive lectures, videos and tours of the Intensive Care Unit, the Emergency Department and Trauma Wards, as well as a visit from an injury survivor) students see first-hand what it would be like to be injured.
The video below provides a great insight into the program and is very similar to one that our boys will experience. Please be aware that this video talks about real life examples of trauma and could be quite disturbing if your family or friends have recently experienced some injury or loss through road trauma.
A busy few weeks have passed with a number of events still to come, sounds like a good time to take a break!!
We hope you enjoy your long weekend!!
