Week 3, Autumn Term 2019
We hope all the Mum’s were treated well last Sunday and enjoyed what a great day Mother’s Day turned out to be.
Next week we look to return to a little bit of normality for the Senior Boys as they return to school after their exam and work experience break.
We have recovered a little bit of control back from the flu as we have had fewer boys this week visiting the Health Centre but that certainly doesn’t mean that we are in the clear. Many of the boys had their flu shot this week but we had a large number who didn’t and we are hoping that this is because families are going to get this done when you see your sons next or on the long weekend.
We had some beautiful warm days here earlier this week but have been hit over the past couple of days with very cold conditions, hopefully this doesn’t mean that winter is coming to early!
With a bye in sport for this weekend many of the boys will have the chance to relax and reflect on a bus=y start to the term and enjoy some downtime before the pressure returns next week.
Happy voting to everyone, hope your chosen party gets up!!
Holiday Travel Arrangements
TWO weeks to go until the Mid Term Break and we would like your leave to be entered please. For help with how to do this please below.
Year 11 and 12 Boarders Dinner Dance
On Saturday week (25th March 2019) the Scotch/PLC Year 11 and 12 Boarders Dinner Dance will be held in the MacKellar Hall. This year the theme is ‘Casino”. The Student Leadership groups from each school have been working hard on preparing for the night and so far everything looks in place for a great evening. The night commences at 7.00pm and concludes at 10.00pm. Bookings for the night can be made HERE!!
Bib Track
The Year 10 and Year 11 Bib Track boys head off for their first walk of the year on Saturday. The Year 10 boys are walking from Nannup to Palings Road while the Year 11s are leaving from Northcliffe and meeting the bus just north of Walpole. Both groups return on Wednesday. Quite timely that this cold snap of weather has arrived just as our boys depart and it looks like they are in for a few chilly days on the track!!
Elevate – Year 9s
Next week the Year 9s have their first Elevate Session of the year. The theme for this session will be Memory Mnemonics and will focus on;
- Maximising attention and minimising distractions
- Memory and learning styles
- Semantic learning techniques
- Avoiding rote learning through use of high level techniques

Boarding Symposium
On Thursday (yesterday) a number of staff attended the Annual State Boarding Symposium. Over the day we hear from a number of speakers and look at ways at which we can improve our students boarding experiences. This year as part of the program past boarders were invited back to relay their experiences and provide some insight into what meant the most to them about life in boarding now that they have been out on their own for a few years. Scotch was represented by Angus Campbell (2017) on stage while Brynn Teakle and Ryan Greaves (2017) came along to support Angus.
AG Day 2019
We have our annual Agricultural day (Ag Day), showcasing our rural community at lunch time on Tuesday 28th May this Term. This year we are inviting all three schools to our event which will include:
- John Deere machinery (Tractors)
- Case Machinery (More Tractors)
- RFDS stand ( plane cockpit for boys to look around)
- Petting farm for the (JS MS boys)
- Coffee stand from Standin’ Room (Paul)
- Lambs on the spit (MS and SS boys)
The Junior School will be coming down to be involved in the day from 12:40 to 12:55 with the Middle and Senior School down from 12:55 to 13:30.
The day is an opportunity for our Boarding boys who come from our regional areas to showcase their lives and what living in a farming community means to them.
City Country Lunch
The City Country Lunch has been “marker penned’ in for Wednesday 29 May 2019 for a Long table lunch at the refurbished Guildford Hotel. The lunch is due to begin at 12.00pm and finish at 2.30pm. A bus is leaving Scotch at 9.30am from the Gooch Pavilion and will return by 3.15pm.
Pam, Fran and Kim are already booked on the bus for the day and would love to catch up with as many country parents as possible.

Chapel with PLC
On Sunday 26 May the Year 7 and 8’s will be going over to PLC to join the girls for Chapel and supper. They will be departing here at 6.20pm and returning by 8.15pm.
A Bib Track Reflection!
Our new format for the Residential Blog allows us to show videos so we thought a reflection back to when our 2019 Bib Track End to Enders crossed the line in Albany might be worth posting so those who don’t get there can see what the boys experience.
REACH
Over the holidays REACH moved house and is now permanently stored within the cloud!! Not this really means much to most of you but what it does do is now provide us access to the REACH App which can be found in your specific App stores. Before downloading it we would suggest that you first remove any old REACH products that might be stored on your phone, this hopefully ensure that there is no confusion between the old and the new app. Once downloaded follow the steps that the app guides you through and you should find that it is very easy to set up.
Two tips:
- When searching for a school just type in Scotch, not Scotch College, as this dramatically reduces the number of schools that you then have to scroll through.
- Your username and password are exactly the same as your previous one, if you can’t remember then go HERE!!
If you experience any other problems please feel free to give us a ring.
Photo Competition
The photo competition has been launched for another year and Sean is very eager to receive your entries. The higher resolution photos you can send in the better because if you are the lucky winner, and have your photo printed onto canvas, the high resolution photos display so much better. Get snapping!!
How do I go about entering my Leave for the Holidays?
Just as a reminder: When completing your son’s Holiday Travel Arrangements please use the ‘Holiday Travel Arrangements’ leave type. Please do not use ‘Overnight Leave’, ‘School Approved Leave’, etc. By using the ‘Holiday Travel Arrangements’ leave type it makes it easier for us to sort the leave and make sure we don’t miss anyone.
