Week 2, Autumn Term 2019
Another week flies by and with Exams, Work Experience, Moray and Winter Sport now in full swing the boys are certainly being kept busy. Again they appear to have all settled well and slipped back into their routines which is pleasing for us all.
Unfortunately, at the moment we are experiencing some sickness within our Year 7 and 8 House, which has forced a number of boys to go home. So far it hasn’t progressed into the other Houses but please don’t be surprised if at some stage over the next couple of weeks your son rings telling you he’s not feeling the best. It is a viral sickness and the only way to try and stop others from catching it is to isolate those who are not well. This may mean that you get a call asking you to collect your son or organise someone else in Perth to collect him because if we can’t remove him then the likelihood is that the virus will continue to spread throughout not only the Residential Community, but the school as well.
Of course one of the most important days of the year is on this weekend and we hope that all our Mothers are looked after this Sunday, or at least get a phone call. We wish all Mum’s a Happy Mothers Day.
Elevate Session
On the first night back of this term the Year 7’s participated in their second Elevate Session for the Year. The theme of this session was Junior Time Management and focused on;
- Creating a study routine
- Prioritising high value tasks
- Creating Assessment planner

Chapel with PLC
On Sunday 26 May the Year 7 and 8’s will be going over to PLC to join the girls for Chapel and supper. They will be departing here at 6.20pm and returning by 8.15pm.
Year 8’s at Moray
Next week the Year 8’s start their Outdoor Experience when they attend Moray for the week.
National Boarding Week
Next week is National Boarding Week around Australia so you should start to see social media starting to get busy with lots of boarding related photos and stories. With our Year 11’s and 12’s in exams we will be relatively quiet during the week but our main celebration will be on when we celebrate our Annual Ag Day.
AG Day 2019
We have our annual Agricultural day (Ag Day), showcasing our rural community at lunch time on Tuesday 28th May this Term. This year we are inviting all three schools to our event which will include:
- John Deere machinery (Tractors)
- Case Machinery (More Tractors)
- RFDS stand ( plane cockpit for boys to look around)
- Petting farm for the (JS MS boys)
- Coffee stand from Standin’ Room (Paul)
- Lambs on the spit (MS and SS boys)
The Junior School will be coming down to be involved in the day from 12:40 to 12:55 with the Middle and Senior School down from 12:55 to 13:30.
The day is an opportunity for our Boarding boys who come from our regional areas to showcase their lives and what living in a farming community means to them.
City Country Lunch
The City Country Lunch has been “marker penned’ in for Wednesday 29 May 2019 for a Long table lunch at the refurbished Guildford Hotel. The lunch is due to begin at 12.00pm and finish at 2.30pm. A bus is leaving Scotch at 9.30am from the Gooch Pavilion and will return by 3.15pm.
Pam, Fran and Kim are already booked on the bus for the day and would love to catch up with as many country parents as possible.
Information has already been emailed out to you all but if for some reason you missed it please find a copy below.
Mid Term Holiday Bus Run
We are planning to run another bus trip over this upcoming long weekend with our journey this time taking us north to Geraldton. A Bib Track Reflection!
Our new format for the Residential Blog allows us to show videos so we thought a reflection back to when our 2019 Bib Track End to Enders crossed the line in Albany might be worth posting so those who don’t get there can see what the boys experience.
Flu Vaccinations
Flu vaccinations for Boarders will be carried out in the Health Centre next Thursday, May 16th at a cost of $26. The cost will be added to your son/s account.
Please fill out the consent form which can be found under the Forms section, and email to the Health Centre.
REACH
Over the holidays REACH moved house and is now permanently stored within the cloud!! Not this really means much to most of you but what it does do is now provide us access to the REACH App which can be found in your specific App stores. Before downloading it we would suggest that you first remove any old REACH products that might be stored on your phone, this hopefully ensure that there is no confusion between the old and the new app. Once downloaded follow the steps that the app guides you through and you should find that it is very easy to set up.
Two tips:
- When searching for a school just type in Scotch, not Scotch College, as this dramatically reduces the number of schools that you then have to scroll through.
- Your username and password are exactly the same as your previous one, if you can’t remember then go HERE!!
If you experience any other problems please feel free to give us a ring.
Photo Competition
The photo competition has been launched for another year and Sean is very eager to receive your entries. The higher resolution photos you can send in the better because if you are the lucky winner, and have your photo printed onto canvas, the high resolution photos display so much better. Get snapping!!
Holiday Travel Arrangements
Three weeks to go until the Mid Term Break and we would like you to start entering your leave.
Just as a reminder: When completing your son’s Holiday Travel Arrangements please use the ‘Holiday Travel Arrangements’ leave type. Please do not use ‘Overnight Leave’, ‘School Approved Leave’, etc. By using the ‘Holiday Travel Arrangements’ leave type it makes it easier for us to sort the leave and make sure we don’t miss anyone.
For those requiring us to arrange transport to either the airport or train station please use the following template within the notes section:
Transport Required: Yes/No
Flight/Train Number:
Flight/Train Departure Time:
Time required to be at Airport/Train Station:
Does your son require an Unaccompanied Travel Form? Yes/No
Is Transport required upon return? Yes/No
Flight/Train Number:
Flight/Train Arrival Time:
NB: Please remember that boarding boys have been given permission to leave the College from 1pm (school finishes 3.25pm) on Friday. However, if they are leaving after school then they are expected to attend all of their remaining classes.
If you are having connection issues then please contact Michelle or Jan and they will enter the details for you.
Wishing you all a fantastic weekend and happy Mother’s Day for Sunday!
