Week 1, Autumn Term 2019
Welcome back to the start of Autumn Term and the Residential Life Blog. We all hope that you had a chance to connect with your sons again and get some time together as a family. Though it does sound like some of you are very busy seeding and for many of the boys this was just what they wanted as they got the chance to get out to do some work on the farm. Many of our staff managed to escape for a period of time over the break to which they enjoyed the chance to wind down and recharge the batteries so they are ready for another busy term.
The blog takes over from the old Residential Life Newsletter and this new platform will provide us with greater flexibility in presenting what happens in Residential Life on a weekly basis. The blog is attached to a digital version of the Residential Handbook and you will notice on the side menu that you have access to lots of other information. The site is slowly coming together but there are still a few areas that need work to them. If you can think of any information that would be beneficial to parents and families then please feel free to send through your thoughts.
Welcome
This term we welcome back Fran Hannington into the Year 9 House as well as Tarquinn Brownley back into the Year 7 and 8 House. We have 2 new students starting with us this term and so we welcome Adriel Roblin into Year 10 and Eason Tian into Year 9. Adriel joins us from Singapore while Eason is from China who for this term is furthering his English skills by attending the Phoenix Language Academy with the aim of joining Scotch for Winter Term.
Thoughts and Prayers to the Harvey Community
Our thoughts and prayers go to the family and friends who live in and around the Harvey community who knew the young man who passed away on the football training track earlier this week. It is one of those tragedies that we just don’t expect to happen, one we never want to happen and when it does we just can’t understand why.
Mid Term Holiday Bus Run
We are planning to run another bus trip over this upcoming long weekend with our journey this time taking us north to Geraldton. We are still finalising details but our initial thoughts are to leave mid morning on the Thursday and follow the Midlands Road coordinating drop offs along the way. We are also going to offer this as a return service. We are also happy to take siblings from other schools so if you are keen on taking advantage of us then please email through your request to Michelle and Jan in the Residential Life office.
Recreation This Weekend
A busy weekend of Recreation for us coming up, especially Saturday night. Aquinas College are hosting their annual Relay for Life activity in which we have thirty boys attending and we have also been very fortunate to be offered $10 tickets for the Eagles and Gold Coast match. This is a very rare treat for Eagles supporters here in the Residential Community and consequently our allotment was snapped up very quickly.
REACH
Over the holidays REACH moved house and is now permanently stored within the cloud!! Not this really means much to most of you but what it does do is now provide us access to the REACH App which can be found in your specific App stores. Before downloading it we would suggest that you first remove any old REACH products that might be stored on your phone, this hopefully ensure that there is no confusion between the old and the new app. Once downloaded follow the steps that the app guides you through and you should find that it is very easy to set up.
Two tips:
- When searching for a school just type in Scotch, not Scotch College, as this dramatically reduces the number of schools that you then have to scroll through.
- Your username and password are exactly the same as your previous one, if you can’t remember then go HERE!!
If you experience any other problems please feel free to give us a ring.
Exams and Work Experience
Next week our Year 11 and 12 boys start their two weeks of exams and work experience.
Flu Vaccinations
Flu vaccinations for Boarders will be carried out in the Health Centre on Thursday, May 16th at a cost of $26. The cost will be added to your son/s account.
Please fill out the consent form which can be found under the Forms section, and email to the Health Centre.
Photo Competition
The photo competition has been launched for another year and Sean is very eager to receive your entries. The higher resolution photos you can send in the better because if you are the lucky winner, and have your photo printed onto canvas, the high resolution photos display so much better. Get snapping!!
Holiday Travel Arrangements
Three weeks to go until the mid term break and we would like you to start thinking about entering your leave for this break.
Just as a reminder: When completing your son’s Holiday Travel Arrangements please use the ‘Holiday Travel Arrangements’ leave type. Please do not use ‘Overnight Leave’, ‘School Approved Leave’, etc. By using the ‘Holiday Travel Arrangements’ leave type it makes it easier for us to sort the leave and make sure we don’t miss anyone.
For those requiring us to arrange transport to either the airport or train station please use the following template within the notes section:
Transport Required: Yes/No
Flight/Train Number:
Flight/Train Departure Time:
Time required to be at Airport/Train Station:
Does your son require an Unaccompanied Travel Form? Yes/No
Is Transport required upon return? Yes/No
Flight/Train Number:
Flight/Train Arrival Time:
NB: Please remember that boarding boys have been given permission to leave the College from 1pm (school finishes 3.25pm) on Friday. However, if they are leaving after school then they are expected to attend all of their remaining classes.
If you are having connection issues then please contact Michelle or Jan and they will enter the details for you.
