Warden responsibilities
Evacuation procedures
On activation of the fire alarm or being directed to evacuate:
- Wardens wear red identification and collect mobile phone.
- Instruct teachers to initiate evacuation of students and visitors from your Area of Responsibility. Ensure students and visitors evacuate via the nearest, safe exit and do not use lifts. Wardens shall close all doors but not lock during their search.
- Ensure all areas have been searched (if safe to do so) with particular attention to:
- blind passages, partitioned areas, offices and meeting rooms
- amenities such as toilets, tea rooms and resource areas.
- Ensure Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs) are activated for occupants and visitors with disabilities and that they are assisted from the building or are in a refuge accompanied by another person.
- When the evacuation and search is complete report to the Area Warden in person at the assembly area and give details of areas clear, the location of persons refusing to leave, occupants / visitors with a disability, areas unable to be searched.
- Follow any further instructions from the Area Warden and then assist teachers at the Assembly Area.
Post-evacuation procedures
- At the Assembly Area, congregate students, occupants and visitors together from their Areas of Responsibility.
- Notify the Area Warden or Chief Warden of anyone known to be unaccounted for.
- Ensure occupants and visitors do not re-enter the site until allowed by the Chief Warden.
