Major and minor medical emergencies
- Contact the Chief Warden by dialling Ext 800 or 9383 6800 (Main Reception) and advise of the location and nature of the emergency.
- Despatch a trained First Aid Officer to the scene, if available.
- Based on their training, the First Aid Officer should render assistance to the injured person and make them comfortable.
- The First Aid Officer will remain with the injured person until arrival of the ambulance.
- Ensure responding emergency services personnel have a clear path of access to the injured person.
- Complete an incident/injury report on Tickit on Demand.
Death of a person
- DO NOT INTERFERE WITH OR MOVE THE BODY
- Ensure no further danger to students or staff.
- Note down everything you touched on entry or everything the first person that entered the room or scene touched.
- If in a room do not use the phone in that room. Close and lock the door and return to Reception, ensuring someone stays outside the room at all times.
- Take down names and details of any person witnessing or involved in or near the incident.
- Protect the immediate area for any investigating agencies and ensure no persons enter the scene or touch any evidence until police assistance arrives.
- Ensure students are moved to other locations and if necessary, comforted, given assistance and access to psychological/counselling support.
- Complete an incident/injury report on Tickit on Demand.
- Liaise with Chief Financial Officer and Risk and Compliance Manager to determine required external reporting. The death of a student, staff member or visitor:
- is a Reportable Incident (per Standard 7 of the Registration Standards for Non-Government Schools) and must be reported as such to the Director General of the Department of Education (via Non-Government School Registration).
- is a Notifiable Incident and must be reported to WorkSafe WA.
Attempted suicide
- Remain calm.
- Ensure no one is in immediate danger.
- Confirm specific information (name, location, behaviour) only if safe to do so.
- Contact the Chief Warden by dialling Ext 800 or 9383 6800 (Main Reception) and advise of the location and nature of the emergency.
- If immediate assistance is required, call
- Mental Health Emergency Services on 1300 555 788 or
- Crisis Care on 9323 1111.
- Prevent unauthorised access to the area. Elements of a lockout procedures might be used in this situation.
- Based on the level of training, render first aid assistance to the injured person and make them comfortable, avoiding contact with blood or bodily fluids by wearing personal protective equipment.
- Do not interfere with any evidence.
- Take down names and details of any person witnessing or involved in or near the incident.
