Training and emergency response exercises
Training
All employees of Scotch College receive training in emergency response procedures appropriate to their role at least annually.
New employees and casual staff receive training at the commencement of their duties.
Occupants who do not work at the facility or are visitors to the facility are provided with appropriate training and/or information on the Emergency Plan as determined by the EPC.
Emergency response exercises
A program of site-specific emergency response exercises has been developed to determine the effectiveness of the Emergency Plan, ECO actions and occupants’ response.
The following applies for all Emergency Response Exercises:
- Emergency Response Exercises are consistent with the identified emergencies in the Emergency Plan.
- Simple objectives and outcomes for Emergency Response Exercises are
- Observers are appointed for all Emergency Response Exercises and use a checklist to record the details of the emergency response exercise,
- Each emergency response exercise is prefixed by an announcement that it is an exercise only.
- Debriefing sessions are held immediately after the exercise with the ECO and other key participants.
- The Chief Warden shall forward a report to the EPC following each emergency response exercise. The report shall include any deficiencies in the evacuation exercise that were identified at the debriefing session.
On an ongoing basis, all areas of Scotch College and all occupants of the facility participate in at least one Emergency Response Exercise in each 12-month period, unless the EPC grants a written exemption prior to conducting the exercise. An exemption may be treated by the ECO as a refusal for the emergency response exercise. The ECO should report exempted occupants to the Chief Warden.
