Tanzania Service Tour
The Tanzania Tour has been an intrinsic part of the Scotch College Service Programme since 2004. The tour is open to boys who will be in Year 11 and 12. The expedition focuses on service to local communities, with some time to experience the beauty and majesty of Tanzania.
The main focus of service is Matipwili village. In 2016, the expedition continued to work on improving the facilities for teaching and learning for the village community. In 2018 the group built infrastructure for vital water and sanitation needs. In the past, students have labored alongside local students and village tradesmen to construct trade training centres, water storage facilities, toilet blocks, classrooms and school buildings. The group will spend five nights at ‘Kisampa’, a bush camp near Matipwili while working in the village.
To compliment their time at Matipwili, the group will go on a safari to the iconic Ngorongoro Crater, on the margins of the Serengeti National Park. The group will visit a Maasai compound or ‘boma’ to see how these colourful traditional nomadic cattle herders live. Students will also participate in a conservation-focused eco day at the Wami River Bush Retreat.
Scotch College and PLC have built a meaningful and lasting partnership with the people of Matipwili and we can’t wait to further that in the upcoming tour!
