Year 3

Romily House Morning Tea
In June 2019, Year 3S hosted 10 guests from Romily House, a sheltered housing facility in our neighbourhood. It was a community minded “action” as the culmination of our community and food units in Semester 1. The residents came for a one-hour morning tea in the dining hall annexe, where they were offered tea, coffee, milk, sugar and biscuits in French by our wonderful linguists. The boys also sang three French songs and then taught the guests the rules of Checkers and played a number of games with them.
The Romily House residents were delighted by their invitation to visit Scotch and congratulated us on the manners, kindness and patience of the boys. A lovely morning was had by all.
Love Angels
On Friday 11 May 2019 the products of a lot of hard work went on sale at the first Love Angels Market Stall. In Jane Roche’s art lessons, Year 3 boys have been using mono printing of their dogs to create greeting cards. These were then printed with the generosity of the Constantine family. The name of the boy who made the card is on the back and most have a quote describing how they came to create their picture. The cards were a big hit and the boys raised a considerable amount of money which has been donated to Ros Worthington’s Love Angels Project.
Felix Jones, Head of Student Council, made a speech at the event that outlined how Scotch College came to be associated with Love Angels and the resulting relationship that we have built with Maddington Primary School. The College’s work with Maddington is having a great impact and the efforts of our Year 3 boys were warmly received. As one attendee said, “if this is a reflection of the youth of today, we are in good hands”.
