FURTHER EDUCATION
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme commenced in 1968 with 2,627 schools offering the DP in 140 different countries worldwide. More than 140,000 students sit Diploma examinations every year.
The DP was established to provide students with a balanced education, to facilitate geographic and cultural mobility and to promote international understanding. Teachers at the International School of Geneva created it with assistance from several other international schools and since then, innovative and committed teachers and examiners from around the world have played a significant role in the development of the programme.
The growing interest in the Diploma Programme and the success of its graduates in universities and industry has lead to several academic bodies producing research papers evaluating the efficacy of the programme.
