Rising Scholar Programme
As a member of Curtin’s Innovative Schools Consortium (ISC), Scotch College is once again invited to participate in the Innovative Rising Scholar Program for High Achieving Students, available in Semester 1 and 2 of 2023.
The program offers our high achieving Year 10 students first-hand experience of learning at Curtin University while still in school, allowing students to earn University credit. Over 20 Scotch students have now completed an online unit of interest as part of the programme.
A number of units will be offered from all Faculties at Curtin (Business and Law, Health Science, Humanities and Science and Engineering). The selection process for students has two stages. In the first stage, high performing Year 10 students are nominated by the school to participate. In Stage 2, shortlisted candidates are selected by Curtin for acceptance into the requested units. The selection criteria we use to select students for the program includes the specific academic competencies required for the unit, the student’s preferences for study, as well as learner attributes and perceived readiness to participate as a university student.
Selected students are granted a full fee Scholarship/Sponsorship for access to the unit. Enrolment provides the student with a Curtin student identification and access to the unit, University library and online resources. Credit for successful completion of the unit can be counted as part of many undergraduate degree programs. Students receive a Curtin transcript of the studies showing their final grade and credit point value of the unit.
This is a wonderful opportunity for high achieving students to independently pursue an area of interest at the tertiary level and receive an introduction to university life.
