Materials Design
Materials Design is a creative and practical course where students will be introduced to a range of hands-on skills to enable the design and creation of functional and unique products. Activities include;
- Working with a range of materials such as Wood, Metal and Plastic.
- Skill development in a wide range of tools and processes such as welding, machining, drilling.
- Use of Computer Controlled machinery such as laser cutters, plasma cutters and 3D printers.
There is a strong emphasis on working safely in the workshop setting.
The Materials Design course helps prepare boys for the following Year 11 and 12 Courses;
- WACE Materials Design Technology
- WACE Dimensional Design
- IB Diploma Design Technology
Students will create solutions to problems by:
- Investigating and defining
- Designing
- Producing and implementing
- Evaluating
- Collaborating and managing
The following non-technical Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills will be explicitly taught through the course:
