Visual Art: Symbols Paintings and Japanese Ceramics
The Year 7 Visual Art course is Inquiry based, which is used to move students to deeper levels of understanding. Inquiry develops curiosity and promotes critical and creative thinking. The first project is influenced by Cubism and Futurism. Students will explore these two Art Movements and look at influential artists from these styles, including Pablo Picasso and Tullio Crali. Students will develop ideas for their own Symbols Painting and they will use skills and processes like painting, stencilling and illustration to create their own original and creative Symbols Painting. The second project is influenced by clay forms from Japan, including teacups, sushi plates and bowls. Students will be immersed into working with the medium of clay and using several hand-building techniques and processes to create their own ceramic forms.
