Science
The Year 9 Science programme is divided into three units of study: Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Students study each unit in a rotation sequence. In the Physics unit students will focus on the broad concept of energy transfer through different mediums using particle and wave models, learning about various forms of energy. The Chemistry unit focuses on atomic structure, the rearrangement of atoms in chemical reactions, changes to an atoms nucleus due to natural radioactivity and different types of chemical reactions which are important to both non-living and living systems. The Biology unit focuses on the integration and control of human body systems through the nervous and endocrine systems. Students will also cover material on ecosystems and the flow of energy through an environment.
These key ATL skills will be explicitly taught and will be assessed on a four-point rating scale:
- Communication: Make effective summary notes for studying – using Cornell Notes.
- Thinking: Draw reasonable conclusions and generalisations, and test generalisations and conclusions.
