Referrals
The pastoral care system in the Senior School is strongly House based. Parents concerned about their son’s social/emotional wellbeing are encouraged to contact their son’s House Head directly.
For more serious issues impacting on a boy’s achievement at school and/or his general wellbeing, the School Psychologists are likely to become involved. The School Psychologists work closely with House Heads in areas to do with a boy’s learning, behaviour management and social/emotional health.
There are three Senior School Psychologists –
Mr Jon Marginis – Lead Psychologist – Alexander, Brisbane and Keys Houses – Monday, Thursday and Friday
Ms Shauna Lipscombe – Psychologist – Senior School – Shearer, St Andrews and Stuart Houses – Monday (A), Wednesday and Thursday
Ms Chloe Hassell – Psychologist – Senior School – Anderson, Cameron, Ferguson and Ross Houses – Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
All psychologists offer individual support for students, which is offered on a short-term basis. This means that, if after 3-5 sessions an issue is not resolved, referral to an outside professional may be recommended Occasionally a boy or family would prefer to go directly to the School Psychologist and this is possible in the Senior School through the Personal Assistant in the Residence, theresidence@scotch.wa.edu.au or 9460 6871. An appointment will then be arranged and students notified by email.
Should the Psychologists wish to see a student during class time, an email will generally be sent to the student, subject teacher (of the class to be missed) and House Head at the start of the day requesting that the student be sent to the Residence. If for some reason the student cannot be excused from class (e.g. a class assessment), another appointment will be arranged.
